I saw a ghost in my dream

A specter was still haunting a house where he lie slain only days before. Grim and pallid, his face bore no emotion.
"Please let me talk to you," and he was murdered in cold blood.
Violence begets violence. But it wouldn't appear so today. The man's body was carried through the street in honor of the end of violence. Yet again, the end of violence was more of an apparition than the ever present specter.
Forty such episodes followed in the same fashion. Forty other houses were raided with the consequences suspected but unknown but it was known that the specter still remained.
No more than three days later the specter struck. Some were horrified, some shocked and the more stout and calculating ones were confused.
