Open Letter to Our Congress

I fear that the leaders of this nation seek to destroy the political institution they embody. They ignore the interests of the general public on many critical issues. They support unnecessary law based on fear, greed, and hate that usurps sound established law even when the majority of the people are at dissonance with it.

Then, our leaders ignore the people when they complain hoping their cries die down. If the people continue crying the leaders relent until they attempt the same controversy with a new name and a more passive atmosphere. When the people tire the leaders forge ahead with more controversial legislation designed to fatten the wealthy's pocket books, to suppress the lives of the lower income and middle class population and sometimes simply out of an irrational reaction to circumstances.

Our country is founded on the shoulders of Democracy. This idea in its purest form extends a voice to every individual. You are a vessel for this voice. If you do not respect your position, if you refuse to parlay this voice then all this country stands for is lost.
